Banreservas delegation meets in France with investors interested in the Dominican Republic

Samuel Pereyra led a series of meetings during the International French Travel Market.

A delegation from Banco de Reservas (Banreservas), headed by its administrator Samuel Pereyra, held meetings in France with clients interested in investing in the development of Bergantín, Jarabacoa, Puerto Plata, Palenque Beach, the eastern region, and other areas of the Dominican Republic.

In a press release, Banreservas reported that among those meetings were important encounters with representatives of hotel groups such as Recaindu Holding, Paramount Hotels & Resorts, Piñeiro, Inverotel, Sky Cana, MGM Muthu, Posadas, and De Valle, among others.

The meetings took place within the framework of the International French Travel Market (IFTM)–Top Resa 2022, the leading French travel and tourism trade fair.

The Banreservas delegation carried out business initiatives together with the Ministry of Tourism to secure investment projects for the Dominican Republic.

Pereyra led meetings with investors interested in hotel projects, as well as with tour operators and executives from various companies that form part of the entertainment industry value chain.

The extensive agenda of meetings was held in Paris during the fair, which took place from the 20th to the 23rd of this month, with the purpose of promoting tourism in the Dominican Republic.

The IFTM-Top Resa traditionally brings together more than 34,000 tourism professionals, and in this 43rd edition, it held special significance for the Dominican Republic and the consolidation of its tourism recovery. This year’s event received more than 20,000 visitors and featured 500 exhibitors.

After the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, the IFTM-Top Resa is the second tourism fair to return to an in-person format following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Impact in Figures

France has strong potential as a source market for tourists traveling to the Dominican Republic, being one of the main European countries with the highest number of visitors. Between January and August 2022, a total of 160,985 French tourists visited the country, representing 16% of visitors from the European market, according to Central Bank data cited in the Banreservas press release.

Since August 2020, Banreservas has supported projects currently under construction that will contribute more than 2,400 hotel rooms, a new cruise port, and a theme park, generating more than 6,000 direct and indirect jobs nationwide.

The administration has also approved more than US $400 million in financing, surpassing total investments of US $985 million.

Banreservas reported that it is currently evaluating operations that will exceed US $1.5 billion, equivalent to RD$80 billion, destined for the construction of new hotel projects that will strengthen the complementary tourism offering planned across the different tourism hubs of the Dominican Republic.

Tovar Exhibition

To promote Dominican art and culture, Banreservas organized two exhibitions in Paris showcasing the works of renowned painter Iván Tovar, who lived in France for many years.

The exhibit, consisting of 11 pieces by the acclaimed artist, opened on the first day of the fair with the attendance of the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and other representatives of the Dominican delegation, as well as industry entrepreneurs.

After the exhibition at the fairgrounds, the showcase was moved to the Dominican Embassy in Paris, where it will remain open to the public for one month. The event, held with the collaboration of Ambassador Rosa Hernández de Grullón, was attended by Iván Tovar’s widow, María Castillo; his daughter, Daniela Tovar; and Yurit Ruiz of the Tovar Foundation.

Members of the Dominican diplomatic delegation stationed in Europe were also present.
